Intervjun:
Thomas Warthoe, CEO Qlife – China Expansion

Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife
This is an interview as part of a paid collaboration.
Introduction – Qlife, China and the next phase of growth
On 13 March 2026, Qlife Holding announced growing interest from hospitals in China in evaluating the Egoo Health Platform — a point‑of‑care system designed to analyze blood samples to laboratory‑comparable standards.
Under the announced collaboration, Hipro Biotech will take full responsibility for further development, local adaptation, regulatory approvals, and commercialization of Egoo in China. Qlife will receive 20% royalty on net sales, without development or market entry costs.
In today’s interview, Qlife CEO Thomas Warthoe shares further insights into the opportunity, the technology behind Egoo, and Qlife’s strategic priorities.
.
1: Tell us about Qlife Holding and your product “the Egoo Health System”
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Qlife Holding is a Nordic diagnostics company focused on making advanced blood testing more accessible by moving it closer to the patient — outside traditional central laboratories.
Our core product, the Egoo Health System, is a compact, automated blood‑testing platform that enables healthcare providers to perform high‑quality biomarker analysis at or near the point of care, such as hospitals, clinics, or future decentralized settings.
In simple terms, Egoo brings lab‑grade diagnostics closer to patients, enabling faster clinical decisions and improved care pathways.
.
2: How do you make money on the Egoo system?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Qlife operates a platform‑based business model built around recurring revenues, rather than relying solely on one‑off instrument sales.
- The Egoo System (Instrument)
- The device itself is sold or placed with customers.
- It functions as the platform that enables ongoing test usage.
- Test Cartridges (Single‑use consumables)
- Each blood test is run on a single‑use, disposable test cartridge.
- This is the primary recurring revenue driver, similar to the razor‑and‑blade model.
- Software & digital services (where applicable)
- Data handling, connectivity, and clinical workflow support can generate additional value over time.
In partnerships such as China, Qlife earns revenue through royalties on net sales, rather than direct sales.
.
3: Does Qlife have other products besides Egoo?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Yes. In addition to the Egoo platform itself, Qlife is developing multiple biomarker‑specific tests and evaluating platform extensions for different clinical use cases.
However, Egoo remains the company’s core commercial platform and primary value driver. New tests and services are designed to strengthen and expand the platform over time rather than replace it.
.
4: How far has Egoo progressed toward the market?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Egoo has progressed through multiple defined development stages, depending on geography and biomarker.
Development stages (high level)
- ✅ Prototype & system design completed
- ✅ Analytical and clinical performance testing
- ✅ Certified tests for certain biomarkers
- 🔄 Regulatory submission processes ongoing and planned, depending on region
Important clarification
Not all biomarkers or geographies progress simultaneously.
Each biomarker × geography combination:
- Requires its own validation
- Requires separate regulatory approval
This is standard in the diagnostics industry. Qlife is therefore advancing the platform step‑by‑step, market‑by‑market.
.
5: What is the regulatory status in different regions?
In Europe, Egoo follows the IVDR regulatory framework, with some biomarker tests already certified and others in progress.
In China, development and regulatory submissions are being conducted locally through Qlife’s partner, Hipro Biotech, under the supervision of Chinese authorities.
Other markets are evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis depending on regulatory requirements and commercial potential.
.
6: Tell us about the growing interest from hospitals in China
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Hospitals in China are showing interest in:
- Decentralized diagnostics
- Faster turnaround times
- Platforms that can integrate with hospital IT systems
Egoo has attracted attention because it:
- Combines automation with high analytical quality
- Can be adapted locally
- Fits well with China’s push toward healthcare digitalization
Importantly, interest is currently focused on evaluation and pilot settings, which is the normal first step before broader adoption.
.
7: How long does it typically take from “proven in a study” to “ready‑to‑ship product”?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: As a general rule in diagnostics 12–24 months, depending on:
- Biomarker complexity
- Required clinical evidence
- Regulatory region
- Manufacturing scale‑up
This includes:
- Final validation
- Regulatory approvals
- Quality system alignment
- Production readiness
Working with experienced local partners, such as Hipro in China, can significantly streamline this process.
.
8: What do recent AI enhancements to the Egoo system mean in practice?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Hipro Biotech has implemented AI‑enhanced capabilities into the Egoo Q300 system.
What this enables:
- Smarter interpretation of test results
- Improved workflow efficiency
- Better clinical decision support
Potential services supported:
- Patient access via app
- Secure communication with healthcare providers
- Device‑to‑hospital connectivity
- Internal physician evaluation dashboards
- AI‑assisted biomarker trend analysis (decision support — not diagnosis)
The objective is supporting clinicians, not replacing them.
.
9: China expansion – who pays, and what does Qlife get?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Under the partnership model, Hipro Biotech is responsible for local development, clinical studies, regulatory approvals, commercialization, and all associated costs in China.
Responsibilities and cost
- Hipro Biotech
- Development
- Localization
- Clinical studies
- Regulatory approvals
- Commercialization
- All associated costs
Qlife receives
- 20% royalty on net sales
- No direct financial exposure to development or market entry costs
- Upside from large‑scale commercialization
This makes the China strategy capital‑efficient and low‑risk for Qlife.
.
10: IP & ownership – who owns what?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Qlife Holding owns the core intellectual property of the Egoo platform, including patents and proprietary know‑how.
Qlife Holding
- Owns the core Egoo platform IP
- Holds patents and know‑how developed within the group
- Owns relevant subsidiaries holding operational rights
Partners (e.g. Hipro)
- Receive defined, geographically limited rights
- Do not own the core platform IP
- Develop local adaptations under license
Qlife retains ownership and control of the foundational technology.
11: Is Qlife engaging with other global players?
Thomas Warthoe (CEO) Qlife: Yes. Qlife is currently in dialogue with several global pharmaceutical and in‑vitro diagnostics (IVD) companies regarding potential strategic partnerships around the Egoo platform.
These discussions reflect growing interest in decentralised diagnostics, digital platforms, and scalable biomarker deployment. While no agreements have been finalised, Qlife aims to establish one or more partnerships during 2026 as part of its global growth strategy.
12: Finally, what do you see as Qlife’s three most important priorities over the next 12 months?
Over the coming 12 months, Qlife is focused on three key areas:
- Regulatory and clinical advancement
- Expand certified biomarkers
- Progress approvals in priority markets
- Partnership‑driven commercialization
- Execute China expansion via Hipro
- Evaluate additional regional partnerships
- Advance discussions with global pharma and IVD companies, targeting strategic partnerships during 2026
- Platform value creation
- Grow recurring revenues
- Expand the biomarker portfolio
- Increase the strategic and commercial attractiveness of the Egoo platform
